Alien vs Predator is a first person shooter game developed exclusively for the Jaguar back in 1994. The game is based on the famous Sci-Fi / Horror Alien cinema movies.
STORY / GAMEPLAY In this action game you can choose your character and play either as a human Marine Corp, a Predator or an Alien. Each species must vanish the other by using special their abilities and weapons. As in the related movies, humans rely on their classic weaponry (machine guns, pistols etc) and bombing means (hand grenades etc) while the alien ones use their own advanced technology and physical powers. The story takes place at a Colonial Marine Base where the Aliens have invaded and killed every single human being. Predators approach the Base as well, in order to scan and search the area and -of course- encounter and destroy each and every Alien. Playing as a Marine, your main goal is to survive the alien attacks, lead your way through the Base, destroy it with explosives and finally save yourself using an escape pod. As an Alien, you must primarily protect your Queen both from the Marines and the Predators. As a Predator you must fight through, kill any enemy and finally locate and destroy the Alien Queen. Whatever your main goal, you will be forced to always encounter two different enemy breeds. The creepy settings and atmosphere, the fast-paced action and the dark areas, make this game really scary. It's also quite difficult to master and fight since in almost every corner you are forced to encounter either one or more than two aliens simultaneously!
GRAPHICS / SOUND Alien vs Predator features some nice 3D visuals, quite smooth animation, a large color palette and creepy sound effects. It's a game that was developed with the aim to showcase the Jaguar's potential and the outcome shows how well this machine could handle 3D textures back in the mid 90s.
