Soul Calibur is the first fighting game of the Soul Calibur series that made its home version debut on the Sega Dreamcast. The game was originally developed for the arcade machines by Namco and was converted to the Dreamcast in 1999 by Sega. In 2008 a more advanced version was released for the XBOX 360. Without a doubt, Soul Calibur is one of the best fighting games on the Sega Dreamcast and in gaming history.

SoulCaliburSTORY / GAMEPLAY
Choosing among 19 fighters, each one with his/her own powers, fighting style and weak spots, your goal is to fight to the end, until only one stands alive. Each character comes equipped with a unique melee weapon that serves as a primary tool for destroying the opposition. The game takes you to a place that looks inspired by the ancient Chinese culture of the 16th-17th century mixed with a fantasy world straight from a comic. Along with the standard arcade mode, there's also a two-players Vs mode, a Team Battle (up to eight fighters to the last man standing), a Time Attack, a Survival and Extra Survival mode, and a Mission Mode (where you fight through a progressive story under a variety of stressful conditions).

GRAPHICS / SOUND
This game was a masterpiece back in 1999 and it stays beautiful even today. Each level has its own fantastic backgrounds and bright graphics with thousands of colors blasting your screen. All characters look absolutely gorgeous, especially the female ones and are created with such a detail that they seem pretty realistic, all running at an incredibly smooth 60 frames per second game engine! Details like hair, clothing and accessories all move in concert with an extremely realistic physics model. The action is fast and flawless and the moves of each fighter are unique. The game's sound offers crystal-clear weapon effects recorded at the highest sample rates. Other ambient sounds, like footsteps, with different tones depending on whether you're stepping on a stone or a wooden surface are also included, along with some extremely clear voice samples. The fantastic "combat" music is a great combination of medieval-style scores played by a symphonic orchestra.
